STAMP DESCRIPTION & HISTORY: The 1996 32-cent Anemone stamp features lavender, white, pink, and red anemone flowers with green foliage and garden soil along the bottom of the design, giving the artwork the appearance of winter flowers planted in a garden bed. The stamp was issued as part of the Winter Garden Flowers booklet, the final booklet in the USPS Garden Flowers series. The set included five flower designs: anemone, crocus, pansy, snowdrop, and winter aconite. The stamps were designed as a continuous se-tenant garden scene, allowing the flowers to appear together as part of one winter garden composition.

FLOWER DESCRIPTION: Anemones are flowering plants in the buttercup family, commonly known as windflowers. Many anemones have delicate, open blooms with petal-like sepals surrounding a central cluster of stamens, giving the flowers a soft, airy appearance. The Winter Garden Flowers booklet, including the Anemone stamp, was issued on January 19, 1996, in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. The stamps were dedicated at Longwood Gardens. The winter booklet was designed by Ned Seidler, who created a single watercolor garden scene used for the five-stamp set.

GUMMED STAMPS: These postage stamps have a traditional moisture-activated gum on the back. These stamps require licking or wetting to adhere to envelopes or other surfaces. To ensure good adhesion, apply vintage gummed stamps to your mailings with a glue stick (we recommend using Elmer's "Re-Stick" glue sticks).
