STAMP DESCRIPTION & HISTORY: This vintage 1993 Daffodil stamp is part of the Spring Garden Flowers booklet issue, the first seasonal flower booklet in the Garden Flowers series. The stamp shows bright yellow daffodil blossoms with green stems and foliage, paired with additional spring garden flowers as part of a continuous bouquet design spread across five stamps in the booklet pane. The Spring Garden Flowers stamps were issued on May 15, 1993, in Spokane, Washington, during the Spokane Lilac Festival and International Lilac Society Convention. The stamp artwork was created by Ned Seidler and engraved by Richard Everett for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.
FLOWER DESCRIPTION: Daffodils belong to the genus Narcissus, a group of mostly spring-flowering bulbs in the amaryllis family. They are known for their trumpet-shaped central corona surrounded by petal-like tepals, often in yellow, white, cream, or orange tones. Daffodils are native mainly to meadows and woodlands of southern Europe and North Africa, with a center of diversity in the western Mediterranean. In gardens, they are beloved early bloomers that emerge from bulbs and return each spring, making them a classic symbol of renewal after winter.
STAMP MEANING & SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE: Daffodils are widely associated with renewal, hope, rebirth, and the return of light after winter. Their early spring bloom makes them a meaningful symbol for fresh beginnings, optimism, encouragement, and joyful transformation. On wedding invitations, Easter cards, spring correspondence, and heartfelt notes, these daffodil stamps bring a message of resilience, brightness, and new life.
STAMP SERIES HISTORY: The Spring Garden Flowers stamps were issued on May 15, 1993, in Spokane, Washington, as the first booklet in a seasonal Garden Flowers series. The booklet featured five 29-cent floral stamps—Hyacinth, Daffodil, Tulip, Iris, and Lilac—arranged as a continuous bouquet. The series grew out of USPS interest in bright, attractive flower stamps for everyday mail, especially as stamps were increasingly sold through supermarkets and other retail locations. Artwork for the Spring Garden Flowers booklet was created by Ned Seidler, with engraving by Richard Everett, and the booklet was printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing using lithography and engraving.
GUMMED STAMPS: These postage stamps have a traditional moisture-activated gum on the back. These stamps require licking or wetting to adhere to envelopes or other surfaces. To ensure good adhesion, apply vintage gummed stamps to your mailings with a glue stick (we recommend using Elmer's "Re-Stick" glue sticks).
GENUINE USPS POSTAGE: These unused vintage postage stamps are perfectly valid for use as current postage for mailing with USPS as long as you use the adequate amount of additional postage to achieve standard postage rates according to the weight of your mailing. Check current postage rates at USPS.com.
