STAMP DESCRIPTION & HISTORY: The 2012 Reindeer in Flight and Moon stamp was issued as one of four coordinated designs in the USPS Santa and Sleigh set, which depicts a continuous Christmas Eve scene of Santa and his reindeer circling above snow-covered rooftops. Illustrator Paul Rogers created the artwork, while Howard E. Paine served as designer, typographer, and art director. Issued on October 13, 2012, in New York City, the Forever stamps were printed by Ashton Potter (USA) Ltd. using offset printing with USPS microprinting and released in pressure-sensitive double-sided booklets of 20. The four designs were intended to work together visually, creating a cinematic nighttime holiday scene across the pane.

The issue also coincided with the 100th anniversary of the Postal Service’s Letters to Santa program.
