STAMP DESCRIPTION & HISTORY: Golden light spreading across a snowy landscape gives this Forever stamp one of the warmest scenes in the 2020 Winter Scenes issue. The photograph shows two evergreen trees rising from a snow-covered setting beneath a richly colored sunrise or sunset sky. USPS released the 10-design booklet on October 16, 2020, in Winter Park, Florida, with art director and designer Derry Noyes selecting existing photographs that reveal the beauty, color, wildlife, and serenity of winter. Ashton Potter (USA) Ltd. printed the self-adhesive stamps using offset lithography.

ABOUT THE WINTER SUNRISE: Sunrise can transform a snowy landscape with warm gold, amber, and orange light, creating a striking contrast with cool white snow and dark evergreen trees. Winter’s lower sun angle can produce especially dramatic skies, while snow reflects the changing light across the surrounding landscape. This combination of warmth and cold gives the stamp a peaceful, almost glowing quality.

EVERGREEN TREES & WINTER LANDSCAPES: Evergreens retain their foliage throughout the cold season, providing year-round color when many other trees have lost their leaves. Their dark needles stand out dramatically against fresh snow and bright winter skies, making evergreens some of the most recognizable elements of northern winter landscapes.

WINTER SUNRISE & HOLIDAY STYLE: Gold dominates the sky, balanced by bright white snow, evergreen green, natural brown, and dark accents. The palette pairs beautifully with ivory, metallic gold, forest green, kraft paper, warm neutrals, black, and rustic holiday stationery. For Christmas cards with woodland, mountain, cabin, elegant, minimalist, or nature-focused styling, this stamp adds warmth and luminosity while retaining a peaceful seasonal character.

SUNRISE, WINTER & NEW BEGINNINGS: A sunrise marks the beginning of a new day, while freshly fallen snow suggests renewal and a landscape made new. Together, these elements give the scene a natural connection to Christmas, New Year greetings, reflection, gratitude, and hopeful messages for the season ahead.

EVERGREENS & HOLIDAY TRADITIONS: Evergreen trees have been associated with winter celebrations for centuries because they remain green through the darkest and coldest months of the year. Their enduring foliage became a natural symbol of life, continuity, hope, and resilience, eventually becoming deeply connected with Christmas trees, wreaths, garlands, and other seasonal traditions.

STAMP MEANING & SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE: The Snowy Morning at Sunrise design symbolizes hope, renewal, illumination, resilience, peace, and new beginnings. The rising light suggests possibility and optimism, while the evergreens represent constancy and enduring life through winter. For holiday cards and meaningful correspondence, this stamp conveys warmth, encouragement, and the promise of brighter days ahead.

STAMP SERIES HISTORY: USPS issued Winter Scenes in 2020 as a 10-design Forever stamp booklet celebrating the serenity and unexpected color of snowy seasonal landscapes. The photographs feature winter wildlife, barns, evergreen trees, a woodland road, and horses traveling through snow. Together, the designs show winter not simply as a season of cold and stillness, but as one filled with wildlife, movement, changing light, and striking natural beauty.
