The “Art of Disney: Romance” stamps are a series of 39-cent commemorative stamps issued by the United States Postal Service (USPS) in 2006. These self-adhesive postage stamps feature Disney characters and couples in romantic situations. The stamps honor the art of romance as imagined by Walt Disney and his studio animators. These iconic stamps were first issued on April 21, 2006, at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. David Pacheco of Burbank, California designed the stamps. With help from some of Walt Disney's famous animated characters, Postal Service art director Terrence McCaffrey joined with a Disney team including artist Peter Emmerich and creative director David Pacheco to create four stamps that feature Cinderella and Prince Charming, Beauty and the Beast, Lady and Tramp, and Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
This stamp is from the third stamp pane honoring the Art of Disney to be issued by the USPS. The first pane, issued in 2004, was on the theme of friendship. The second pane, issued in 2005, focused on celebrations.
Although Elvis has remained king as the single most popular stamp subject of all time, with an estimated 124.1 million Elvis stamps collected, Mickey Mouse and his friends rule as the most popular stamp series with over 211.5 million collected. Originally scheduled to be introduced as three sets during a three-year period, the fifth and final debut for the “Art of Disney” series took place on August 7th, 2008, in front of the Sleeping Beauty castle in Disneyland when the USPS dedicated the “Art of Disney: Imagination” stamps.
These unused vintage stamps are perfectly suitable for use as current postage for mailing with USPS, as long as you use the adequate amount of postage to achieve standard postage rates according to the weight of your mailing.
