STAMP DESCRIPTION & HISTORY: The 2004 Mickey Mouse, Goofy and Donald Duck stamp was issued as part of The Art of Disney: Friendship, the first USPS pane in the Art of Disney series. The design brings together Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and Donald Duck, three of the most recognizable characters in American animation, in a playful celebration of friendship. Mickey debuted in 1928 and quickly became an American icon, while Goofy and Donald developed into two of his best-known companions through decades of animated shorts, television, comics, and feature productions. For the Friendship issue, the USPS described the trio as the perfect fun-loving group. The stamp was designed by David Pacheco, illustrated by Peter Emmerich, and art directed by Terrence McCaffrey. Issued on June 23, 2004, in Anaheim, California, the design combines humor, companionship, classic animation, and Disney nostalgia in a cheerful USPS commemorative.
