STAMP DESCRIPTION & HISTORY: The 1984 Love with Hearts stamp was issued as part of the USPS Love series and features the word “LOVE” repeated five times, with the “V” in each word replaced by a heart in a different color. Graphic designer Bradbury Thompson created the design, using simple typography and repeated heart forms to create a bold, modern expression of affection. Issued on January 31, 1984, at the Children's Museum in Washington, D.C. in collaboration with the Greeting Card Association, the 20-cent stamp paid the then contemporary First-Class Mail rate. This stamp was originally unveiled on November 1, 1983, to celebrate National Card and Letter-Writing Week. It was printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing using a combination of photogravure and engraving, with the hearts printed by gravure and the lettering printed by intaglio.
