Red Dahlia Stamps (Beautiful Blooms Series, Flowers, Bridal, Red) Vintage Unused USPS Postage 41c
Red Dahlia Stamps (Beautiful Blooms Series, Flowers, Bridal, Red) Vintage Unused USPS Postage 41c
Add a touch of timeless elegance to your save-the-date, bridal announcement, wedding invitations, and letters with this gorgeous vintage stamp from the “Beautiful Blooms” series. Mint condition and unused, this self-adhesive stamp stamp features a single, vibrant red dahlia flower with yellow highlights on a green stem, pictured from above, and showcasing its characteristic abundance of petals that are tightly packed together to form a dense, spherical shape. The center of the flower has a cluster of tightly packed florets in a darker shade of deep red with subtle variations in tone and texture.
Dahlias are perennials with colorful flowers that grow from underground tubers. They are native to Mexico and Central America and are the national flower of Mexico. Dahlias come in many colors, including white, yellow, orange, red, and purple. They can be solid in color, patterned, or have different colors at the edges. Dahlia petals can be round or pointed, straight or curled, long or short, and uniform or spaced irregularly. Dahlia flowers can be simple star arrangements, complex spherical balls, or waterlily blooms. Fun fact, the tubers of dahlias can be eaten like potatoes or carrots.
In Victorian times, people began to see the dahlia as a sign of devotion and love. They were also viewed as symbols of beauty and dignity. With these flower meanings in mind, it’s no surprise dahlias were widely used in wedding celebrations. Today, dahlia flowers symbolize beauty, commitment, and kindness. They’re also tied to steadfastness due to their ability to bloom after many other flowers have died. Red dahlias, in particular, symbolize strength, perseverance, and the ability to overcome challenges. They can also represent love, romance, and confidence.
While dahlias are native to Mexico and Central America, they have spread throughout the world. Mexico loves dahlias so much that its people declared the garden dahlia the national flower of Mexico in 1963. Leaders of the 1963 Floriculture Nacional event pushed then President Adolfo Lopez Mateo to declare the dahlia the national flower.
With a face value of 41 cents, these unused stamps are valid for current postage and are a must-have for wedding and bridal correspondence, or for anyone wishing to convey beauty and style with their mailings.
The “Beautiful Blooms” series is a set of 10 different flower designs designed by artist Carl T. Herrman of Carlsbad, California, and was first issued by the United States Postal Service on August 10, 2007 in Portland, Oregon. Photographer Mark Laita of Culver City, California, created the artistic images of the beautiful blooms featured on these stamps. These magnificent flowers may be seen coast to coast, not only in gardens, but floating on ponds, and adorning trees.
The following are the names of all ten flowers that are depicted on the “Beautiful Blooms” series stamps: echinacea (commonly called the purple coneflower), tulip, water lily, poppy, spider chrysanthemum, orange gerbera daisy, iris, dahlia, vulcan magnolia, and red gerbera daisy.
These stamps are perfectly suitable for use as current postage for mailing with USPS, as long as you use the adequate amount of postage to achieve standard postage rates according to the weight of your mailing.
